GETTING THE BEST OUT OF HIGH-QUALITY RAW MATERIALS
RAW MATERIAL EXTRACTION
The raw materials from our deposits are mainly extracted by wet mining using suction dredgers and floating grab dredgers. In some cases, a dry cut is also carried out upstream using hydraulic chain excavators.
PROCESSING OF QUARTZ SANDS
In all plants, extraction with suction dredgers/floating grab dredgers or chain dredgers is followed by various stages of wet processing in order to remove unwanted components such as adhesions and fines and to maximise the purity of the industrial mineral quartz. This is followed by separation into specific basic fractions.
While the sand and gravel at the Hagenbach and Saalhausen plants are sold in a moist state, the quartz sand and gravel in Quedlinburg and Haida are dried to a residual moisture content of less than 0.1 %.
Very precise classification technologies allow us to use the separated grain fractions to precisely produce the customised silica sands required for the customer's specific application.
The resulting quartz sand components are temporarily stored in silos and then assembled into customised products. They are delivered loose by lorry or big bags.
