New control system at the Haida quartz sand works
A new state-of-the-art control system has been installed at the Haida drying plant to make the production of classified quartz sand even more efficient.
Every year, around 200,000 tonnes of quartz sand are dried to a residual moisture content of less than 0.1% at the Haida plant. In order to fulfil the increasing quality standards and specific customer requirements more efficiently, a completely new software system was installed for the production process. The search for the right solution took some time, as many different requirements had to be taken into account. New control and server cabinets, hundreds of metres of cable and a great deal of internal and external expertise were then required to integrate the new system in summer 2023.
All processes at a glance and under control
All production steps in the plant can now be monitored completely and in detail. Several workstations have been integrated throughout the plant to ensure rapid intervention at all levels - from feeding the material from the stockpile into the drying plant to regulating the ovens and loading orders. It is now also possible for the sales department to view the current silo levels.
Existing screening lines could be transferred from the old system. In future, new grading curves can be precisely developed and saved for each individual customer. It will even be possible to archive loaded orders for quality assurance purposes. The implementation is not yet complete. Further work processes are currently being optimised and simplified.
